Marathon Boy Bookends: Reviving Ancient Greek Cultural Heritage through Contemporary Design

Promoting History and Aesthetics in a Unique Object

SOPHIA Enjoy Thinking draws inspiration from Ancient Greece to create the Marathon Boy Bookends, a unique design that blends eternity with modernity and tells the story of Greece through harmonious design.

The Marathon Boy Bookends by SOPHIA Enjoy Thinking are not just ordinary bookends. They are a testament to the rich history and cultural heritage of Ancient Greece, brought to life through contemporary design. Inspired by the concept of beauty, health, strength, victory, and wisdom of ancient Greece, these bookends serve as a messenger, whispering the story of a victorious young athlete.

What sets the Marathon Boy Bookends apart is their ability to combine innocence with physical perfection, reminding us that belief in oneself is a prerequisite for success and personal fulfillment. The design is not only aesthetically pleasing and functional but also carries a strong idea - the promotion of ancient Greek history through design.

The Marathon Boy Bookends are made with care and attention to detail. Handcrafted in Greece, they are made from ceramine, an ecological material that imitates the properties and effects of the materials used in antiquity. This material is a mixture of earthenware, making it both environmentally friendly and safe for human use.

Each piece of the Marathon Boy Bookends is sculpted separately, symbolizing the distinctiveness of each side of the human brain and body. With dimensions of 27.5 x 7 x 17 centimeters each, these bookends are not only functional but also visually striking. They come in a diverse range of colors, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your taste and style.

The Marathon Boy Bookends were initially designed in September 2014 and have since gained recognition and acclaim. They were first exhibited at the Maison and Objet show in Paris in January 2015 and were exhibited again in new colors at Maison and Objet in January 2016. The design was even featured on the cover of the magazine Elle Decoration, Special International Edition, published in January 2016.

Through extensive historical and cultural research, the designers behind SOPHIA Enjoy Thinking were able to successfully revive the ancient Greek cultural heritage in a contemporary design. The challenge was to integrate the historical perspective with the aesthetics and functionality of the design, and they have done so with great success.

The Marathon Boy Bookends are not just a design object; they are a cultural gift, enriching the cultural design industry and promoting the notion of cultural storytelling. By bringing together the past and the present, SOPHIA Enjoy Thinking has created a design that not only serves a practical purpose but also sparks curiosity and admiration for the rich history of Ancient Greece.

With its unique blend of history, aesthetics, and functionality, the Marathon Boy Bookends have been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2016. This award is a testament to the outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill demonstrated by SOPHIA Enjoy Thinking in creating this remarkable design.
